The Undresser (2002)

Chromogenic print
Sizes : 60 x 80 cm 80 x 116 cm, 70 x 170 cm

A woman undresses ad infinitum without ever completely exposing herself. In a strange ritual, she strips herself of successive layers of clothing. Her movements are meticulous, serious, sometimes clumsy, and proceed according to categories: dresses, skirts, blouses, stockings, pants, socks, clothes from A to Z, black or white. As they fall to the floor, the clothes provoke a series of echoing phrases.

"A woman takes off a blouse, which reveals another blouse.
another blouse, which she takes off, revealing
another blouse, which she takes off, revealing
another blouse, which she takes off, revealing
another blouse, and the tranquility of nakedness
never comes."

Henri Michaux in Life in the Folds, 1972
