WOVEN PORTRAITS

2024

Vertical format: 17 x 70
Horizontal format: 50 x 90 cm

Meeting 37 women living in Riyadh today, from different generations and backgrounds
laid the foundations for this series of portraits woven between the city and its inhabitants. Through her eyes, the artist transposes the testimonies into sensual urban tableaux.

Wandering through the city's streets, losing herself in the depths of the night, following in the footsteps
of the protagonists in their daily wanderings, transforming their stories into collective
collective poems, superimposing faces, hands, abayas, gazes and mouths, the photographic compositions draw us into a dialogue with Riyadh.

The fragments of images, the focus on certain phrases, urban scenes transposed into dreams
evoke not only the challenge faced by women, their growing success, their extraordinary
but also the tenderness and beauty of their presence.
A dress blowing in the wind, a head of hair waving in the wind, a caressing gaze, a dreamy mouth
dreamy mouth form a subjective portrait of the capital.

Everyone can recognize themselves in these quests and aspirations. There's a certain osmosis
osmosis between these women and the city, as if they had a secret access, as if they could
their dreams. The city was made for them.

This series was created for the exhibition Woven Portraits: Dreamscapes of a City at the Art Pur Foundation, on view in March 2024. It is the result of a collaboration with artist Daniah Al Saleh and interviews with 37 Saudi women in 2023.
